ACH Giving Explanation

What is ACH?

Automated Clearing House, or ACH, is the means of electronically transferring money (also known as Electronic Funds Transfer, or EFT) from a financial institution (bank, credit union, etc.) to an organization (like a church) or business.

Why is the E. Free Church offering this?

The Bible teaches us that we should give:

  • Cheerfully – “not reluctantly” (2 Cor. 9:7)
  • Consistently – “on the first day of every week” (I Cor. 16:2)
  • Proportionately – “in keeping with his income” (I Cor. 16:2)

When the amount and frequency for withdrawal are determined prayerfully and in a spirit of worship, giving by ACH is consistent with Biblical teaching.

Due to the increasing number of requests, especially from regular givers who already pay their household bills electronically, the church is simply offering this means of giving as a convenience to those who wish to use it.

How does ACH work?

For some, ACH provides a simple way to be consistent with your intended donations, especially when on vacation or away on business. By filling out the attached form, you authorize automatic payments from your bank account to the Sheboygan E. Free Church. You determine whether to give weekly, twice per month, or monthly. Your bank statement will include those payments, and you will continue to receive an annual giving letter, which includes your ACH giving, from the church.

Is there a risk in making electronic contributions?

No. An electronic contribution is safer than writing a check; it can’t get lost, be stolen or destroyed in the mail. Electronic contributions also have a very high accuracy rate.

Can I change the amount of my gift?

Yes. You can change the amount or frequency of your gift at any time, simply by completing a new form. You can also decide to stop giving via ACH simply by notifying the church in writing.

Who sees the information on my form?

The Sheboygan E. Free Church keeps giving records strictly confidential. The information on your enrollment form will be seen only by a few accounting individuals who process the form.

How do I enroll?

Fill out the Enrollment and Authorization Form, and attach either a voided check or a deposit slip. Put them in a sealed envelope marked “ATTN: ACH Giving”, and place them in an offering plate or mail to the church office at 1710 N. 15th Street, Sheboygan, WI 53081.
