THE ELDER BOARD

The Elders are responsible for doctrinal integrity, ministry vision, and strategic development of the ministry of this church.  Made up of no more than a dozen men, the board typically meets twice per month to discuss church vision, leadership, and shepherding.

The Elders shepherd God’s people.  They do this through teaching God’s Word in Adult Bible Fellowships (ABFs), providing spiritual oversight to the Sunday morning ABFs, ministering to the Care Group leaders within their ABF, and providing an example of godly character.

The Elders provide leadership as a one-voice board, interacting with whole church mission, vision and values.

To qualify as an Elder, men must be 30 years of age or older, be a member of the Evangelical Free Church of Sheboygan for at least two years, and be committed to the Biblical tithe.  Their term of service is three years.  A description of their leadership can be found in the following Biblical texts:  1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9 and 1 Peter 5:1-4. Examples of godly character are found in the lives of Jesus Christ and the Apostles.

THE DEACON BOARD

The Deacons are responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of the church, maintaining the physical structure of the building and grounds, and extending compassionate care for the church family. The board is comprised of 12 men maximum who meet monthly to review financial matters; approve policies, procedures and budgets that facilitate the church’s ministries; and develop strategies relating to the Compassion Ministries.

An attitude of servanthood is necessary for men who serve in the Compassion Ministries such as food pantry, transportation, and helps & moving, among others.

To qualify as a Deacon, men must be 30 years of age or older, be a member of the Evangelical Free Church of Sheboygan for at least two years, and be committed to the Biblical tithe.  Their term of service is three years.  A description of their leadership qualifications is found in the following Biblical texts:  1 Timothy 3:8-10 and 12-13.  Examples are given in Acts 6:1-6 and 8:26-39, as well as shown in Luke’s service to Paul (Acts 20-28), and Timothy and Titus serving with the Apostle Paul (the Epistles).
